A strange custom.

We have not figured out why many of the hotels make their beds by turning the edges of the sheets back but on top of the mattress. They often do not rap them around the mattress.

Why is this art?

This huge statue is a famous sculpture by a Colombian man named Botero. He always exagerates his models. This piece of art??? is on loan in a park in Bucaramanga. He loves to make his figures large and the people naked.

Zone conference skits.

Some of the best parts of our zone conferences are the skits by the Assistants. Elder McClain and Elder Jorquera didn't dissapoint us.

Good bye Elder Bower.

Elder Bower has returned home to Idaho. He worked in the office and was a great help to the mission. We wish him well at Utah State.

A lot of pills.

Sister Brasher, a visitor in our mission, had an enormous pill container. We hope all her many pills can help her with her heath problems.

Battlefield near Paipa.

This little farming area is the area that one of the battles was fought for the independence of Colombia. The turning point for the Colombians was when 14 men on their horses road bareback and succesfully stopped the Spaniards. The lanceros were nearly naked and the Spaniards had their heavy wool uniforms. When the rains came, the Spaniard's wet uniforms made it hard for them to move quickly.

A very impressive monument.

When ever we have new visitors to our mission we love to show them this incredible monument in honor of the 14 lanceros that helped win the independence for Colombbia. There are 14 life size horses and 14 lanceros. This is located near Paipa.

Always build your house on a strong foundation.

Along the ride to Duitama we pass this house. It had a terrible ending. There had been so much rain, that it slid down the hill right off its foundation and broke in two.

President Hacking's dream.

On our rides from Bogota to Duitama, we pass this hill in a beautiful valley. President Hacking thinks this would be a perfect location for a new mission home with a 350* view. Of course a helicopter would have to go along with the new home.

Natalia and Jefferson.

We attened the wedding reception of our maid's daughter Natalia and her new husband Jefferson.

Jeffereson was baptized the next day at 7:00 A.M.

A Scooby Burguer.

This Scooby burguer is the best sandwich ever, and no, I did not misspell burguer. This yummy meal is found in Cucuta. We look forward to our Cucuta conferences so we can eat a Scooby burguer. It has slices of roast boof, chicken slices, pork slices and all the condiments you would want.

Bogota airport.

Elder and Sister Brasher on right were waiting to fly to Cucuta for a conference. They were a fun couple to travel with. While in Colombia, they taught all our missionaries how to better handle stress. We learned many things from them.

The three musketeers.

Sister Weidmer, Sister Barbara Brasher, and me Sister Hacking, enjoyed a fun visit together. Sister Brasher is our area phycologist. She is a dynamic woman with no more that 77 years under her belt. She came to our mission from Lima, Peru, to do some stress management. She just recently had 2 heart attakcs and unfortunately soon after this photo was taken she returned to Peru, only to find she has cancer and had to return to the states five months early. We wish her well. We loved her and her husband.
